No Freeze Support

We are currently in immediate need of No Freeze Shelter Overflow Program Volunteers. The No Freeze Shelter Overflow Program is a collaboration between the Milford Community and the Beth-El Center. It aims to provide overflow space during extreme weather conditions (cold, snow, rain) to ensure everyone in need has a warm, safe place to sleep. This program reflects our shared vision: no one is left outside, the provision of cots to all, and no one is turned away. By partnering with our community for increased shelter space and volunteer support, we expand our capacity to serve the community and provide a safety net for those in the greatest need.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Welcome guests and assist with settling in.
  • Ensure cots and bedding are set up properly.
  • Ensure doors to sanctuary are locked (unless church programming is going on). See below for information on keys.
  • Provide a supportive presence and monitor for any concerns.
  • Supervise smoke breaks taking place every half hour.
  • Enforce quiet hours beginning at 10:00 PM.
  • Monitor the space to ensure safety and security.
  • Support guests in adhering to program rules.
  • Conduct occasional walk-throughs to check on guest well-being.
  • Contact on-call staff for any emergencies.
  • Prepare guests for morning departure and assist with cleanup.
