Diversion Services

Beth-El Center's Diversion Services support households who are at imminent risk of homelessness or are literally homeless.

We provide shelter diversion services along the Connecticut shoreline from Milford to Madison and in the lower Naugatuck Valley area.

The goal is to assist in stabilizing households as soon as possible and help them avoid entering the emergency homeless response system.

Our diversion services:

  • Help to prevent homelessness by identifying and supporting individuals and families throughout the shoreline area who are housing unstable and at the brink of homelessness. We assist those who are at high risk for homelessness by identifying alternate housing arrangements and connecting them with services to help them return to permanent housing.
  • Engage, educate and collaborate with various community partners and target specific sites where vulnerable populations might be found such as soup kitchens, libraries and malls.
  • Conduct CAN assessments and facilitate community referrals as needed.

This program can help to remove barriers that threaten or prevent employment, help pay utility and rental arrears necessary for landlord mediation and provide security deposit assistance for those who can stabilize their current living situation without shelter intervention.
